The Tesco Stronger Starts Programme makes grants of £500/£1000/£1500 to three local schools/charities/voluntary organisations per participating store each quarter.
Tracey Sugden, Project Assistant for the team at Groundwork Yorkshire states that:
Tesco is mainly focussing on any groups which support children and young people in any way but other applications are also welcome. There are participating stores right across North Yorkshire and this is a great way for smaller local organisations to get funding which could make a huge difference to them. In spite of this, we struggle to get applications in and as a result local groups, organisations and children are missing out.
We need your members to be aware that this programme is out there just waiting to be used and that applying is all online – just search “Tesco Stronger Starts”. Groups which do apply can get practical help from our head office if they need it and any applications which don’t get picked for support immediately are not declined – they just stay in the mix for the next round of applications. This means it’s never a waste of time putting an application in.
Once a project has been accepted for voting on, it will go into the most local store and applicants can pick which store they would like this to be as part of their application process. Anyone who has been into Tesco will have seen the clear plastic voting booths with the little blue tokens in – this is how the three projects get voted on each quarter and how it is decided who gets what amount of funding.
